It All Started with a Lemonade Stand — Now You Can Be a Hero, Too

Cleveland Police Captain Keith Sulzer stands with 11-year-old Destiny Rice at her lemonade fundraiser for Patrolman Hank Adkins, joined by family and supporters inside Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

When Destiny Rice was just 11 years old, she set up a simple lemonade stand. But what she started that day was far from ordinary — it became the beginning of a legacy of compassion. Her goal? To support her friend, Patrolman Hank Adkins, a Cleveland police officer battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

That lemonade stand sparked what is now known as the Heroes Fund — a fund that continues to support Cleveland police officers and their families facing chronic illness or injury. Though Patrolman Adkins has since passed, Destiny’s act of kindness lives on.

Since 2020, the Cleveland Police Foundation has carried Destiny’s vision forward, ensuring that donations continue to bring hope and help to those who serve our city in uniform.

Your support makes all the difference. A monthly gift of just $10 helps sustain the Heroes Fund and other critical programs like:

  • Officer Wellness
  • Kids Christmas
  • Fishing with Cops

Every dollar helps. But a recurring monthly donation means lasting impact. It’s like setting up your own lemonade stand — not for profit, but for purpose.

Be a hero for Cleveland’s heroes in blue.

Donate today — because real heroes help heroes.

Your gift continues the spirit of a simple lemonade stand that grew into a legacy of compassion. It supports officer wellness, youth programs, and community outreach that make Cleveland safer and more connected.
