Every fall, Cleveland’s neighborhoods come alive with costumes, candy, and community spirit — and our officers are right in the middle of the fun. From handing out treats to posing for spooky selfies, members of the Cleveland Division of Police make Halloween a time to connect with kids and families in a positive, lighthearted way.
These moments of joy are more than just snapshots. They’re reminders of the trust and friendship that continue to grow between officers and the communities they serve. Whether it’s a high-five from Batman or a candy bag handed out with a smile, Halloween gives us a chance to show that behind every badge is a neighbor who cares.
As the leaves fall and the pumpkins glow, we’re proud to celebrate these feel-good moments that strengthen the bonds we work to build all year long.
Enjoy the Magic of Halloween… Safely
Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Low lighting and dark costumes can make it harder for drivers to see young trick-or-treaters.
Keep these safety tips in mind when your children are out on Halloween night:
- A responsible adult should accompany young children on their neighborhood rounds.
- If older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you.
- Agree on a specific time children should return home.
- Teach your children never to enter a stranger’s home or car.
- Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends.
And if you’re out driving on Halloween:
- Watch for children walking on roadways, medians, and curbs.
- Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.
- At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing.
- Discourage new or inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween.
