The CPF in Partnership with the OCPA Presents the ” Tip Of The Week “

BULLYING

Definition: Bullying involves repeated physical, verbal, or psychological attacks or intimidation against a victim that can’t defend him or herself, because of size or strength or because victim is outnumbered.
* Boy bullies tend to rely on physical aggression more than girls who often use teasing, roomer spreading, exclusion, and social isolation.
* Most studies show boys are more likely to bully than girls.
* Studies also show boys are most likely to be victimized during elementary school years.
* Bullying does not end in elementary school, middle school provides ample opportunity for bullying although at a lesser rate.
* Bullying by boys declines substantially after age 15, while bullying by girls declines at age 14.
* There is a strong belief among parents that the degree of school principal involvement helps determine the degree of bullying at any given school.
