Reeling in Memories: Cops/Kids Fishing Outing

The first of two Cops/Kids fishing events sponsored by the Cleveland Police Foundation was held June 17 at Edgewater Park with children from the Cleveland Police Athletic League. After receiving t-shirts, the kids were given safety tips by Lt. Ed Lentz and headed out for two hours of fishing side by side with our police officers. Upon completion, they returned to the marina and enjoyed a shore lunch including delicious fish caught and cooked at an earlier date by Lt. Lentz. The kids then had the opportunity to visit with the K-9 Unit, Mounted Unit, Motorcycle Unit and marine police boats provided by Metro Parks and Border Patrol. At day’s end, each child received a book bag and ten of them won Visa gift cards that were raffled off. They definitely experienced a day to remember, but most importantly realized that police officers are regular people and are always there to help them. A big thanks to all who made this event a success and see you next year.
