32nd Annual Greater Cleveland Police Memorial Commemoration, May 14-21, 2017

The Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society's annual Police Memorial Commemoration is reputed to be one of the finest in North America. Annually the event draws hundreds of law enforcement and corrections officers from across the United States and Canada, and is reported to contribute approximately $1.6 million to the local economy. The entire community is encouraged to come out and show its support for those who put their lives on the line daily to protect our communities and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Many of the refugee children in Cleveland have never had an opportunity to learn how to ride a bike. Now they will be able to learn during gym class. Boliko from Tanzania, and Raneem from Syria were kind enough to test ride the bikes for us. Ms. Russo even showed off her bike riding skills!

Wearing of the Green!

In the spirit of the day, Lt. Edward Lentz of the 1st District painted Police Junior Badges green and took to the streets to spread some CPD Irish cheer! We say, "Cheers" to Lt. Lentz!, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Teens Save Man from Car Wreck

With all the recent mayhem at the IX center involving teenagers some people may lose hope in our future, but there is always a light. These two young women helped an unknown, critically injured, man who crashed his car on E 36 and Chester. The girls attempted to flag down passerby's, but hundreds of people (probably on the way to the Cleveland Clinic) passed by, until finally one man stopped. It was a freezing morning but the ladies stood by until the man was freed from being entrapped inside his vehicle.

Thanks to the young women's quick thinking and determination, the man was able to receive the help he needed. Thank you for being an asset to your community!

Helping To Get His Stolen Property Back

A Cleveland man is extremely thankful to two city officers: Friedrich Kaufmann and James Crivel, who found his stolen customized Sonor drum set. Andrade Scovil said his drums were taken along with his car when he stopped for gas on West 150th Street on March 12th.

“We couldn’t believe it when we got the call Thursday night,” Andradia Scovil said. “These drums meant so much to my dad.”

Breaking Bread

There is something special that happens when we cook and share a meal with each other, we become friends!! The Cleveland Police and Cleveland Police Foundation cooked a pancake and sausage breakfast for the residents of our new apartment complex at 11610 Madison, A Place for Us. Commander Fay and staff from the 1st District joined Councilman Zone and got to know the residents during the breakfast meal. Thank you to CPF and to our volunteers Rose and Alice, along with our good friends at Community Policing!

Best wishes to our board member, Ryan Weatherford, as he begins a new chapter of his career in New Jersey. Thank you for your service to the CPF!

In addition to providing funding for youth and community outreach programs, community policing and engagement initiatives, crime prevention and safety programs, and supporting the members of the Division of Police to help them better perform their duties, the CPF proudly supports the following charities in accomplishing their mission.
