Cleveland Cops N Cribs: Putting Infants out of Risk

The Cleveland Police Foundation has teamed up with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health on the Cops N Cribs program. Cleveland ranks near the top nationally in infant mortality rates, much of these infant deaths are due to sleep related causes, such as adults sleeping in bed or on a couch with an infant. Cuyahoga County averages about 20 sleep related deaths per year!! A contributing factor for these sleep related deaths is that many families in Cleveland cannot afford a safe sleeping environment. A safe sleeping environment requires that an infant sleep Alone, on their Back, and in a Crib (the ABC‘s of Safe Sleeping). The Cops N Cribs program is simple: if a Cleveland Police officer encounters a family with an infant and does not see a safe sleeping environment they simply ask if the family needs a crib. If the family needs a crib, the Cleveland Police Foundation will deliver a new Graco Pack N’ Play crib, along with information about safe sleep for infants. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has donated several cribs and have been wonderful partners. The Cleveland Police Foundation through donations has raised money to specifically support this program. Our friends Mike and Sharon Hargrove have also joined us to help us raise money for this program!! The Cleveland Police Foundation is investing in our community and in our children!!
