The Cleveland Police Historical Society and Museum: Bringing Law Enforcement and the Public Closer
During the month of May, we honor the legacy of the Cleveland Division of Police and pay tribute to officers past and present.
It’s also the perfect time to reflect on the role of the Cleveland Police Historical Society and Museum, which collects and preserves police history while using its collections and programs to educate the public. The Museum fosters mutual understanding and respect between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Covering the entire history of the Cleveland Police Department—from its origins in the mid-1800s to modern day—the Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the stories, events, and people who helped shape the city’s public safety legacy. From Eliot Ness and the Prohibition years to the haunting Torso Murders, there’s something here for anyone interested in police history or true crime.
Featured Museum Collections Include:
- Fallen Officers Gallery
- 19th Century Policing
- K-9 Unit at Work
- Focus on the Motorcycle Unit
- Our Famous Mounted Unit
- Ports & Harbors Unit: Safety on the Water
- Progressive Era: A City on the Rise
The Museum is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm. Admission is always free. Tours are available by appointment.
