What Do We Do? Top Questions Answered

Here are several questions we are asked about the Cleveland Police Foundation on a regular basis. If you have a question that doesn’t appear here, write to me today.

QUESTION: What is the mission of the Cleveland Police Foundation? Our mission is to help police improve community trust with emphasis on youths in their formative years, and programs that enhance the morale and well-being of police officers and their families.

QUESTION: How long has the CPF been in existence? The CPF has been around since 2005 but was officially established as a 501(c)(3) in 2010. It was originally founded when Police Chief Michael McGrath took the advice of three local civic leaders—Thomas D. Ganley, Edward A. Lozick and Samuel H. Miller—and incorporated our foundation as an organization to create opportunities for collaboration between the police and the community.

QUESTION: Why should I support the Cleveland Police Foundation? The Cleveland Police Foundation (CPF) is the approved fundraising organization for the Cleveland Division of Police. It supports unfunded or under-funded programs to protect, equip, and encourage police officers to be the best they can be. And we do all we can to bring our police officers closer to the community.

QUESTION: Is CPF part of the Cleveland Division of Police? No, the CPF remains an independent organization separate from the Division of Cleveland Police. However, we stay in contact with all five Police Districts to pinpoint their needs.

QUESTION: Who is on the CPF board? We are very thankful for the contributions of our board and treasure their talent and time. The entire list of our current Cleveland Police Foundation Board can be found at www.clevelandpolicefoundation.org/staff-and-board/.

QUESTION: I heard the CPF supports the Cleveland Police Charities. What are they? The five police charities are the Cleveland Mounted Police Charitable Trust, the Cleveland Pipes & Drums, the Cleveland Police Honor Guard, the Police Athletic League, and the Cleveland Police Historical Society & Museum.

QUESTION: Where does the Cleveland Police Foundation receive most of its funding? We thank our community for your generosity. Without you we could not fulfill our mission. Most of our funding comes from individuals, companies, and foundations. Our foundation also serves as the fiduciary for donations that support major programs benefiting the Cleveland Police Division.

QUESTION: Can your foundation use volunteers? You can help by volunteering your time for events, fundraising and special committees. Contact us for more information: info@clevelandpolicefoundation.org.

We provide funding for youth and community outreach programs, community policing and engagement initiatives, safety & crime prevention programs, and support the members of the Cleveland Division of Police to help them better perform their duties. Contributions to the CPF are tax deductible under section 501 (c)(3) of the IRS Code.
